Gobble gobble gobble………it’s turkey time. The trees are changing their leaves and still there are some good campfire days left in this month. A lot of our snow birds and winter Texans will be leaving this month right after Big Bird day to head south for the warm weather.

We are still working on our new web pages and trying to make them easy to find and order from, Please let me know what you like or don’t like and if you are having any problem on ordering email me let me know jerry@bigdiscountrv.com Thanks for your help.

I know this isn’t a Thanksgiving dish but I had the the other night and it was very good, easy to make and quick. Give this one a try, I think you will really like it. I’m going to link you through to where I got the recipe at Kraft Foods.

VICKS VAPO RUB - INTERESTING

During a lecture on Essential Oils, they told us how the foot soles can absorb oils. Their example: Put garlic on your feet and within 20 minutes you can ‘taste’ it.

Some of us have used Vicks Vapo rub for years for everything from chapped lips to sore toes and many body parts in between. But I’ve never heard of this. And don’t laugh, it works 100% of the time, although the scientists who discovered it aren’t sure why. To stop night time coughing in a child (or adult), put Vicks Vapo rub generously on the bottom of the feet at bedtime, then cover with socks. Even persistent, heavy, deep coughing will stop in about 5 minutes and stay stopped for many, many hours of relief. Works 100% of the time and is more effective in children than even very strong prescription cough medicines. In addition it is extremely soothing and comforting and they will sleep soundly.

Ask the Tech

Question: I have a Winnebago with a ice maker and a washing machine, what is the process to winterize those 2 items, thanks for your help

Answer: Jeff, Here in our shop we blow the system out using no more than 40 pounds of air pressure hooked up to the city water hook up. On the ice maker remove the outside cover unhook the inlet line at the icemaker pump and run air pressure threw the system until it blows dry. Then rehook the line go to the control in the freezer and turn it till you get air coming through. At that point you should have all the water out of the icemaker lines then use a paper towel and dry the tray out. On your washer and dryer unhook the water lines at the back of the unit and let air blow through until they are dry then rehook them and run it through a complete cycle with air pressure on it to blow the water out of the system. If air is not available you can unhook the lines at the back of the ice maker and let them gravity drain while running the icemaker through a cycle. You will however have to blow through the pump to get it dry. You can also run RV antifreeze through the washing machine until you get it coming out the drain. Also don’t forget to drain your filters on your system. It is best to remove them and empty the container then reinstall.

Getting ready to winterize? Well here are some helping hints.

Don’t put antifreeze in the fresh water tank. It's quite difficult to get the antifreeze smell and taste out of the tank later on. Black water and gray tanks are ok to put in antifreeze just make sure the fresh water tank is completely emptied.

RV plumbing systems are easy to winterize, others require a little more ingenuity. Some folks like to blow out their system with an air compressor. Just make sure you don't exceed the operating pressure of your water system. 40-50 psi . Also, if your RV doesn't have a water heater bypass, get one and install it. It allows you to isolate the water heater during winterization so you don't have to fill it with antifreeze, which is difficult to get out of it in the spring anyway. Removed plug from the outside of the water heater, and open the relief valve, which is also located on the outside of the heater.

Don’t forget about washer/dryers, icemakers, water filters. These need to be winterized. This can be complicated, so follow the manufacturers instructions for winterizing these appliances and if you’re at all uncomfortable with the process, best take it to your local RV Dealer to have done.

Make sure that every drain has antifreeze in the P-trap and don’t forget the toilet. You should flush the toilet at least once through with antifreeze.

Crumple up some newspapers and put them if the refrigerator to draw any moisture, and also to deodorize. For products you may need to winterize your unit, visit our winterizing page.

When you are wanting RV antifreeze you should be able to pay $2.45 to $3.95 a gallon and purchase at your local Lowes or Menards. We can sell you RV antifreeze but it’s cheaper to buy it locally because of the cost to ship.

The Good Husband

Jack wakes up with a huge hangover after attending his company’s Christmas Party. Jack is not normally a drinker, but the drinks went down easy. He didn’t even remember how he got home from the party. Jack had to force himself to open his eyes… the first thing he sees is a couple of aspirins next to a glass of water on the side table w/a single rose. Jack sits up and sees his clothing in front of him, all clean and pressed. He looks around the room and sees that it is in perfect order. So is the rest of the house. He takes the aspirins, cringes when he sees a huge black eye staring back at him in the bathroom mirror. Then he notices a note hanging on the corner of the mirror written in red with little hearts on it and a kiss mark from his wife in lipstick: ‘Honey, breakfast is on the stove, I left early to get groceries to make you your favorite dinner tonight. I love you, darling! Love, Jillian’ He stumbles to the kitchen and sure enough, there is a hot breakfast, hot coffee and the morning newspaper. His son is also at the table, eating. Jack asks, ‘What happened last night?’ ‘Well, you came home after 3 A.M., drunk and out of your mind. You fell over the coffee table and broke it, and then you puked in the hallway, and got that black eye when you ran into the door. Confused, he asked his son, ‘So, why is everything in such perfect order and so clean? I have a rose, and breakfast is on the table.?’ His son replies, ‘Oh THAT!.. Mom dragged you to the bedroom, And when she tried to take your pants off, you screamed, ‘Leave me alone, I’m married!!’
