Pie Iron Recipes Fellow campers , if you have never sat around a campfire and cooked with a pie iron, you are missing out on the best part of camping. There are so many ways to have fun with your pie iron. Kids and adults will enjoy coming up with their own creations. Take a box of Jiffy cornmix, chocolate cake mix, brownie mix and your imagination will go wild. My grandchildren and I truly enjoy coming up with our own recipes. I use one of our pie irons that we sell -it is a heavier iron, that you have to season like a iron skillet. Most of these receipes take between 5-8 mins. depending on your fire. Caution - do not put your iron into the flame. Cook on the side of the fire near the coals and check often to see that it is done. Once the iron gets hot, the second time you cook, it will not take as long. DO NOT LET LITTLE CHILDREN NEAR THE IRON. IT GETS VERY HOT! Also let the contents cool before eating. Email me with your campfire recipes. Let's share the fun. Question: What the heck is a Pie Iron? The solid cast iron design holds up to the rigors of the campfire best but must be watched closely to avoid burning. Pie Irons are fun to use, and make terrific sandwiches and desserts. One word of caution- watch children closely because the fillings can get very hot! Other terms for pie iron fare: Toasties, Mountain Pies, Hobo Pies, Pudgie Pies and Pie Shams. Try some of these: |
